Stress-free learning Child

Trivandrum, India, Sept. 13 2002 (INS News) -- A
'stress free' learning Child Resource Centre, Sishya
Resource Centre started functioning in Trivandrum,
giving childern the ability to learn things for
life in a friendly and tension free atmosphere,special
educator and consultant Suchitra Narayanan, said
in a press conference.
She
said that "Studies conducted all over the world
have proved that brain is more receptive when you
do things by hand rather than learn it form text
books."
The
centre is run by Dhruv Educational Trust, registered
as a charitable, non-profit trust, seeing the need
for providing personalised attention to children.
The learning difficulties could be due to various
reasons including frequent change of schools, Medium
of instruction not in the mother tongue, Nutritional
deficiencies, Physical difficulties, Cognitive disabilities,
Emotional problems or Learning Disabilities. "We
aim to identify the cause of the learning difficulty
and provide the appropriate guidance." she
said
She specified that "These days, children are
judged based on their performance - when teaching
is aimed at the class average and not at the individual.
When there is no opportunity to learn according
to one's preferred mode of learning, performance
is poor. we aim to cater this."
The
persons at Sishya Resource Centre include Dr. P.A.

Ph.D, Psychologist, Mammen Thomas - retired senior
teacher,Bursar of Rishi Valley School , Rebecca
Thomas - retired senior teacher and Principal of
Rishi Valley School , Lalitha Ramanujan - Alpha
to Omega Learning Centre, Chennai, Suchitra Narayan
