Kerala State: CPM Blockade Disrupts Government Office Functioning

Trivandrum, India, Sept. 7 2002 (INS News) -- 'Fill the Jails' agitation launched by the Communist Party of India (Maxist) against the Kerala State government disrupted the normal functioning of Government offices in the state.

The agitation will continue till September 12. It has been pointed out that the functioning of Civil Stations are continuously disrupted as the police have decided not to arrest the protestors. In the last four days, protestors dispersed on their own by 5 pm when the office hours ended.

The Efforts made by district administration in Calicut District and Capital city to make alternate arrangements by drafting the Staff to other offices have also not succeeded.

Hundreds of CPM volunteers created blockade around the Trivandrum Collectorate, prevented the employees for enter the office.

In Cochin, the blockade was inaugurated by Opposition leader V.S. Achutanandan shortly after he left the scene, group of CPM workers tried to barge into the District Collectorate of Cochin, resulting in a tussle with the police.

Pinarayi Vijayan, State Secretary, Communist Party Of India (Maxist) inaugurated the blockade in Kannur District, north of Kerala State.
