Privilege Motion against Minister for Co-operation

Trivandrum, India, Jul. 9 2002 (INS News) --
Shri. A K Balan Communist Party of India (Marxist) member, Legislative Assembly of Kerala State, has given notice to Kerla Legislative Assembly Speaker against State Minister co-operation minister M V Raghavan for breach of privilege for 'misinforming' the House while replying to the Pariyaram medical college bill.

In his notice, Balan said Raghavan had misled the house by pointing out that the Kerala state co-operative hospital complex (KSCHC) at Pariyaram was in possession of the 48.1562 hectare land in which the medical college was situated.

In 1994 The high court of Kerala had nullified the assigning of 48.1562 hectares of land to the medical college. The minister himself had later stated in the house that the government had filed an appeal in the court on the land issue,He said

He said the minister's statement in the house was against facts and sought the speaker's permission to raise the matter as a privilege issue.
