Trivandrum, India, Jul. 11 2002 (INS News) --
The Kerala State Chief Minister A.K. Antony informed the State Assembly that the government was very closely watching the private financial Institutions in the state and use of goons by them for recovering the dues from defaulters.

A.K. Antony was replying to a call attention moved by member of Indian Union Muslim League, Mammootty, on serious law and order problems caused by the activities of these type of financial firms, which exploits the public. Antony promised in the Assembly stern action against firms which sought the use of criminals.

The youngsters recruited as professionals by moneylenders to realise the loan instalments from the defaulters, that ends up as thieves and vehicle lifters. This was revealed by a study conducted by police, AK Antony said.

Government should provide protection to private money lenders and at the same time it was also important to see that new goons were not produced under the cover of this business, Antony added.
