Kerala Telcos & Banks Launch E-Payment Facility

Trivandrum, India, Dec. 3 2002 (INS News) -- Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has launched on-line bill payment for its landline phone customers in the Trivandrum. The bill payment facility is being provided with the support of Federal and Centurion banks.

Customers will be notified of new bills through their e-mail and once processing their payment online they will be given an electronic receipt. Additionally customers will be able download bills from the past two years.

‘‘The new customer-friendly facility will enable bill payment from any part of the world round the clock,’’ K Sreekantan Nair BSNL General Manager told reporters.

The service is limited to the participating banks with BSNL negotiating to extend the service with other local banks ICICI and UTI to increase its availability.
The new payment system is uses Linux open source software and the software has been developed by Linuxense Information Systems Pvt Ltd.
