Asian
Development Bank to survey slums In Northern Part
of Kerala
Calicut, India, Aug. 6 2002 (INS News)
-- A four member delegation
of Asian Development Bank which arrived in Calicut,
northern part of the State of Kerala, will begin
a survey on the slums of the city as part of a pilot
project on slum eradication and poverty curtailing,
in Calicut
The
delegates of Asian Development Bank comprising of
consultants on urban development, Victoria De Villa,
Royston A C Brockman, Antony Faud J Man and Avelino
Buenafe, held detailed discussion with the officials
of Calicut Corporation. They are also likely to
meet social workers, other prominent people before
a final decision on the project is taken.
The
delegates is also scheduled to meet, State Minister
in charge of Local Administration , Cherkulam Abdullah,
Calicut, in the northern part of kerala, is third
city in the world and the first in India to be selected
for this project's implementation. The other two
are in Philippines and Vietnam.
Asked
about the possibility of funding the development
works in the city, Brockman said nothing has been
finalised. "The city has good growth potentials
and ADB is interested in investing in the State.
So there may be some funding from the Bank."
