Maharashtra Governor Quits

New Delhi, Jul. 10 2002 (INS News) --
Maharastra State Governor P.C. Alexander has resigned.

Alexander, whose name was initially floated by the NDA as its candidate for the presidential election, handed over his resignation letter to Deputy Prime Minister L.K Advani in New Delhi, official sources said.

The Vajpayee Government which failed in its attempt to make him President is all set to compensate for the embrassment caused to him.Alexander has been offered the post of Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commissionand the other post being considere for him is Permanent Envoy to the United Nations.

He was appointed as Governor of Maharashtra by the Narasimha Rao government in the mid-90s and was reappointed for another term by Vajpayee Government after he had established good equations with the then Shiv Sena BJP government in Maharastra state.
